A map, not a verdict

Sun, Moon and Ascendant are the readable skeleton of almost any chart. Sun: core vitality; Moon: feeling and rhythm; Ascendant: how you meet the world and the tone of the houses.

Houses locate life themes. They depend on birth time and place. Without a reliable time, houses lose meaning, which is why we warn when time is unknown.

Aspects are angles between planets. They describe how parts of the map talk to each other. We use configurable orbs and a calm editorial style.

The Ascendant first, because it decides where the wheel starts and which house everything else lands in. Then Sun and Moon: by sign, but above all by house. Then any planet sitting on an angle (ASC, MC, DSC, IC), which are the ones most visibly at work. Aspects last.

That order matters because it avoids the most common mistake: starting from the aspect list, which is the showiest part and the least structural. A chart stands on its angles; the aspects qualify what is already standing.

The sign says how a planet expresses itself. The house says where in a life it happens. The aspect says what else in the chart it has to negotiate with.

Blurring the three is where readings that say nothing come from. «Mars in Aries» is a manner; «Mars in the sixth house» is a place; put together they already describe something specific.

Almost always for one of three reasons, and none of them is that one is wrong. First, the house system: Placidus, Whole Sign and Koch divide the twelve houses differently over identical planetary positions. Second, the time zone: if the other calculation applied today's offset to a 1978 date, the Ascendant can move fifteen degrees. Third, the zodiac, tropical or sidereal, which shifts every sign by about twenty-four degrees.

This is why the certificate that comes with every order declares all three. A chart without those figures cannot be checked, and a chart that cannot be checked is decoration.
